Magnin will advise on the launch of the Group’s annual giving program and other fundraising activities including the Star Society, a membership program that supports the Group’s research and education activities. “Jerry Magnin is 100% committed to the work of these incredible scientists,” board chairman Arthur Levine said. “I have no doubt that his invaluable experience will help take the Galactic Center Group to the next level of discovery."
Led by world-renowned astronomer Andrea Ghez, the Galactic Center Group is transforming our understanding of supermassive black holes and their role in the formation and evolution of galaxies. Over the past decade, dramatic advances at UCLA in infrared astronomy and high-resolution imaging techniques have enabled researchers to see farther into the galaxy than ever before and explore new frontiers of fundamental physics. In fact, Ghez and her colleagues are poised to test Einstein’s theory of General Relativity in the strongest gravitational field ever explored.
Andrea Ghez, holder of the Lauren B. Leichtman and Arthur E. Levine Astrophysics Chair in Astrophysics, said, “This is a pivotal moment in our research, and we are extremely grateful to have the support of such a committed and talented board member.”
Magnin is president and CEO of Bruin Pharma and former president of Ralph Lauren - Beverly Hills. He recently stepped down as chairman of the board for the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, where he helped raise more than $76 million.
